Meet Jordan

Welcome to the Joy of Learning! My name is Jordan Burns. I am passionate about teaching and learning, and I love helping children develop confidence and find the joy in learning.

I am an Educational Therapist with 10 years of experience in the field of Education. I have long been fascinated by the similarities and differences in human learning and development, which led me to study Psychology and Teaching at Gonzaga University, and later to study Educational Therapy.  I've also pursued extensive professional development in reading and math instruction throughout my teaching career.

I grew up in Seattle and attended both public and independent schools, and have taught in a variety of settings as an adult. Over the past 5 years, I have taught students with a range of learning styles and needs including Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscaculia, Autism Spectrum, ADHD, and Developmental Delay. I also work with students who have no diagnosis but need academic support, or for whom the teaching methods used in school are not working.

My teaching style is clear, supportive, relational, and adaptive to the needs of the student.  I often get the feedback that my calm, kind, grounded demeanor and fun, engaging teaching style make a huge difference for my students.

My favorite part of teaching is supporting my students to see their unique strengths and to feel confident about their learning. I truly believe that all students can learn to read, write, and be proficient mathematicians, and I delight in helping students succeed. I look forward to working with you!
